Liverpool 1-0 Everton

Liverpool have moved five points clear of Everton in the race for 4th place after a 1-0 win in the 207th Merseyside derby. Fernando Torres scored his 28th goal of the season in the game. Liverpool used a 4-2-3-1 formation with Torres as a lone striker with Gerrard behind him. Pepe Reina's clean sheet here means he has now kept 52 clean sheets in his first 100 games for Liverpool setting a new club record.

It wasn't long before the Reds scored, too. It took just 7 minutes. That's how long it took Torres to get Liverpool's 100th goal of the season, the first english club to score 100 goals. The goal came after Xabi Alonso got the ball from Yakubu on the edge of the visitors' box before Dirk Kuyt touch the ball to pass it to Torres. Torres has now scored in six consecutive home games, a club record he shares with Fred Pagnam (1919), Roger Hunt (1964), Ian Rush (1983) and Michael Owen (1999). The second goal very nearly did came six minutes before the break when Gerrard, smashed a 25-yard volley against the post. Man of The Match Sami Hypia

Liverpool 0-3 Manchester United

I hate it. This is not going to be the year again. Rafael Benitez will have to wait for another time for his first league win against Man U. The match was really spoiled the moment Javier Mascherano got sent off, and that for continually pestering the referee. Before the game Liverpool had a lot of confidence after 7 wins on the trot. Wes Brown scored the opening goal and late strikes from Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani.

On This Day April 4th Liverpool won against Manchester United at a clash at Anfield back in 1988.
Goals from Peter Beardsley, Gary Gillespie and Steve McMahon gave Kenny Dalglish's men a 3-1 advantage and when the Red Devils were reduced to 10-men, it looked like Liverpool would win this United made a comeback to make the scoreline a 3-3 draw.

Also on this day in Liverpool FC history Bill Shankly celebrated his 100th win as he won against Manchester United in 1964. Ian Callaghan and Alf Arrowsmith (2) got the goals in a 3-0 win.

On this day April 3 1996 Liverpool almost destroyed Newcastle's title hopes with a 4-3 win in the greatest Premier league game ever.

Liverpool had the perfect start when Robbie Fowler scored a header from Stan Collymore's cross. Newcastle soon took the lead with goals from Les Ferdinand and David Ginola. Robbie Fowler scored his second of the match to equalise for Liverpool and making it 22 goals in his last 21 matches before Tino Asprilla put Kevin Keegan's men back in front. It was non stop action then Collymore made it 3-3 before smashing in a last minute goal at the Kop end to make 4-3.

Javier Mascherano scored his first Liverpool goal as the Reds came from behind to make it seven wins in a row with a 2-1 victory over Reading. Fernando Torres scored his 20th league goal in the game making him the first Liverpool player since Robbie Fowler in 1995-1996 to score 20 league goals in 1 season. The win over Reading means Liverpool now have 59 points the most Liverpool had after 30 league games.

The Referee gave Reading a free kick in the 5th minute but the free kick should have never been given but the referee thought Arbeloa's tackle on the left was a free kick. The free kick was just a pass to Matejovsky but he scored a brilliant shot into the top corner. Liverpool then creating chances the first one was when the Xabi Alonso's shot hit the top of the bar with a great hit from 20 yards. The equalising goal arrived on 19 minutes from the unlikeliest of sources. Mascherano, without a goal in 43 appearances, after getting passed Steven Hunt he scored a dynamite strike at the Kop end. Ryan Babel then scored a goal with a near-post header but it was offside. The best opportunity for the Reds to take the lead before half-time was Dirk Kuyt's volley that went over from the penalty spot. After 3 minutes of half time Fernando Torres who scored his first hat trick for Liverpool against Reading, jumped high above Kevin Doyle to head Gerrard's well-placed free-kick. Over the closing minutes of the game Reading got frustrated Andre Bikey received a yellow card for hitting Steven Gerrard and they got even more frutrated when Gerrard blocked a Dave Kitson hit with his arm in the penalty box but there was no way Gerrard could move his arm when blocking a shot. In the last seconds of the game Xabi Alonso hit a 75-yard shot. A third goal from his own half in less then three years? Sadly no it just went inches wide. Man of The Match Javier Mascherano
